Movie interiors can serve as the perfect, blissful escape every so often—like finding yourself in a hotel or Airbnb with the luxury of trying on another life. Preferably, one that takes place in a charming Spanish bungalow or a historic brownstone on Riverside Drive. Unlike traditional home tours, movie interiors give us a glimpse into how it would truly feel to live in a different place. Oftentimes, one far from our current reality—at least for now. Ahead, I’ve rounded up five drool-worthy movie interiors with a few ideas on how to recreate them in your own space.
1. Head Above Water

Full disclosure: I have never seen this film. After some online sleuthing led me to this Maine beach house though, I’ve added it to my list. Even if only for the perfect, wrap-around windows, and textured lounge chair by the floating fireplace. The balance that this space strikes is perfect—it’s classic and traditional but far from pretentious. The blanket-covered roll armchairs, for instance, add a subtle boho flair, while the color palette remains airy and timeless.

2. It’s Complicated

I’ve already dedicated an entire article to Nancy Meyers interiors, but I still had to give this idyllic kitchen and dining room a shout-out. It’s the epitome of casual elegance with marble, rustic woods, steel-framed windows, and accents of terracotta hues for warmth. The skirted kitchen cabinets, modern pendant lighting, and rustic dining table feels impeccably layered and collected over time.

3. You’ve Got Mail

It’s hard to decide which corner of this historic Upper West Side brownstone I covet the most, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Kathleen Kelly’s writing area. Floating the desk off-center in the room adds such a quirky confidence to the space, and a traditional table lamp in place of a task light feels welcoming rather than utilitarian. All in all, the perfect place to write phantom letters to your internet boyfriend.

4. Hanging Up

Hanging Up wasn’t Nora Ephron’s biggest hit, but this cozy Spanish bungalow is definitely a winner. For a similar feel, go all in with the cozy clubhouse vibes, featuring plush leather seating, a stack of vintage suitcases and a classic plaid throw. I also love the departure from a typical neutral kitchen to this playful one, thanks to rows of colorful serveware on display.

5. The Proposal

Aside from a shirtless Ryan Reynolds and the ever-so-precious Betty White, the rustic charm of this Alaskan guest room was the real star of The Proposal (no disrespect to Sandra Bullock). Layering warm tones with traditional silhouettes gives this space an elevated mountain lodge vibe that makes me want to go skiing in the best way.
